I feel like I should apologise for the lack of postings as of late, both here and on my main website. You see, I'm this close to finishing a new design for macdaraconroy.com, which should be online and ready to go by the weekend.
Once that's over with, my attention will turn to the content. I've got reams of stuff to blog about, first and foremost being my recent adventure in London. I made notes, people -- and I intend to shove 'em down your gullets.
When did you first realize that you were ___________? Was it a positive or negative experience?
Question submitted by George.
When I first realised that I was not the only wrestling fan at university, it could only be described as a positive experience.
I'd grown up since I was 11 watching all the wrestling I could find on TV, reading all the magazines, going to the live shows whenever the 'Big Two' passed through my town. But it was all under a veil of secrecy, because wrestling wasn't cool. Oh no. To everyone else at school it was just fake -- so it was best to keep my head down about it.
But when I started university in 1999, suddenly wrestling was all the rage! Not only was I in a much more intelligent, enlightened atmosphere -- where nerds could openly express their nerdiness -- but The Rock and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin had made wrestling the cool thing to watch again. I can't tell you how much of a relief it was meeting others who could appreciate wrestling for what it is (and not take it too seriously) and to come out as a fan myself, unashamed of my love for the business.
And here I am, 15-plus years after I began and I'm still a die-hard, dyed-in-the-wool wrestling nerd, despite how crappy the product has gotten lately.
What famous person do people say you resemble?
Someone once said I look like Squarepusher, but I don't see it myself.
In my own view? let's just say I look a lot like The Big Show -- except not nearly as tall.
