What's the best television commerical that you've seen in recent years? Did it make you want to buy the product?
Everyone knows the best adverts come from far away places (no matter where you happen to be in the world) but British TV has spoilt us with some very good ones recently.
Most of the Honda ads of the last few years spring to mind, especially the one with the thought balloons - it didn't even show any Honda products in it, only the logo at the end, but it made you remember it, and that's the point.
The first few ads in the campaign for the 3 mobile phone network were also great, but on a different level, because they were just so off the wall. (I mean, come on! A cherry singing Chicago? A woman with giant hands playing basketball? What's not to love?!)
But the best commercial I've seen this year is The Guardian's advert for their World Cup coverage, which was broadcast for a few days a couple of weeks ago. It's recycled from a campaign they had for the Euro Cup in 2004, but it's still brilliant and worth repeating. Even for someone like me who doesn't like football, it had me in stitches! You can see the original below, through the magic of YouTube:
As for making me want to buy the products? The first two didn't, and I read The Guardian anyway. But I rarely buy products from TV ads -- that Be Your Own Pet album I got is the only exception I can think of.
